Openview HD test signal live on SES 5 satellite

Openview HD started its roadshow in Port Elizabeth to installers about the new satellite DTH Free To Air channels on SES 5 satellite at 5 degrees east, the same satellite TOP TV is broadcasting its pay tv service. The launch is anticipated to be in October 2013 and will be broadcast in DVB-S2 with minimum of 15 channels and 5 of them in High Definition. The set top box will be encrypted with NDS for control access and thus will require activation. The head-end and uplink station is situated at e-tv broadcast center in Cape Town. Some of the channels that will launch will be SABC 1-2-3, etv, e-kasi, e-africa, e-movies and setanta sport to name few. It is anticipated that the retail price value for set top box including installation with an 80cm dish will be R1899.00 once off with no monthly subscription. It is also anticipated that an enabled PVR set top box will be launched in second term of 2014 as access control is still in development.

  3. Yes it will be on a separate decoder that is Openview HD approved because you will need to activate it for viewing, the activation will be once off. The same satellite Top TV is using will be Openview HD, if you already have Top TV installation done you just need a Twin LNB and extra cable installed if you want to still want Top TV, beside that if you do not want Top TV you just unplug Top TV decoder and plug on Openview HD decoder.

  5. Option 1 - If you want to keep Top TV, then you will need a twin LNB and extra cable to OVHD decoder on the same satellite dish.
Option 2 - If you do not need Top TV anymore, then you buy OVHD decoder only and connect to existing Top TV installed satellite dish.

Having said that I still feel that in future Top TV will be able to use OVHD as it`s decoders meets minimum requirement for SD channels, If I was Top TV I would allow access for OVHD on the existing decoder and leverage the business by concentrating on more paid premium contents channels and On Demand services.

  9. If I reposition my DSTV dish, Do I still use the same DSTV LNB?

  10. So a single dish can serve two decoders by using dual LNB and extra cable installed, meaning you can have OVHD and DSTV decoders on one TV or one house.

Does this also mean a single dish can serve three decoders by using triple LNB.? if it exist.
